At our German Pod charcuterie event, students gathered around a colorful spread of cheeses, meats, breads, and fruits while speaking only in German. The relaxed, café-style atmosphere made it easy to blend language practice with cultural exchange: as we sampled regional specialties like soft cheeses and rye breads, we also talked about how food traditions connect to everyday life in Germany and Europe more broadly. Sharing a charcuterie board mirrors the European custom of slowing down, enjoying food together, and building community, which deepened our appreciation for German culture beyond the classroom. The mix of conversation, food, and fellowship created an immersive environment where practicing German felt natural and closely tied to real cultural practices.
