January 16: 오리엔테이션 Introduction & Popular Games 

Description: Introduce this semester’s activity schedule and share one’s winter break experience in Korean Language. Play popular games in Korea such as APT, ddak-ji, gong-gi, and omok.  

January 23: Korea on the Board  

Description: Play a boardgame called “Korea on the Board” to learn about different regions and cities of Korea, their tourist attractions, cultural heritages, and landmarks

January 30: Korean Dialect   

Description: Guess the meanings of unique dialect expressions from different regions of Korea. Try to match each dialect to its corresponding region. 

February 6: Jeongwol Daeboreum (First Full Moon Festival) 

Description: Learn about the origin of Jeongwol Daeboreum in Korea. Predict the next scenes as we learn the story of its origin myth. 

February 15: Jeongwol Daeboreum Semester Event

Description: Eat Korean street food and write down one's wishes for the new year. Conduct Jwibulnori (cultural activity) using sparklers.  

February 20: Ddi - The Twelve Zodiac Animals 

Description: Ddi refers to animal symbols that describe the year of birth and the personality/fate of individuals born in that year, widely used by Koreans to address age. Learn about each person’s ddi and different ways of addressing age in Korea. Create a Hanji craft based on the ddi animals.

February 27: Korean Folklore

Description: Predict the next scenes in famous Korean folktales, including The Tale of Hong Gildong, The Tale of Chunhyang, The Tale of Heungbu and Nolbu, The Tale of Shim Cheong, etc.

March 6: Traditional K-Music/Theater

Description: Watch short videos of Korean traditional music and performances, such as pansori, buchaechum, talchum, sajachum, pungmulnori, etc. Describe the characteristics of each performance and share one's impressions in Korean.

March 20: Weddings in Korea

Description: Compare Korean and American wedding culture. Conduct a mock traditional wedding. 

March 27: First Birthdays in Korea 

Description: Conduct a mock Doljanchi (celebration of a baby’s first birthday). Conduct Doljabi---an iconic part of the celebration where the baby chooses one item, which is believed to predict their future or destiny 

April 3: Korean Currency  

Description: Learn about Korean currency and guess the symbols in bills. Guess the price of products and services in Korea (transportations, snacks in convenience stores, activities. etc.

April 10: K-Beauty

Description: Learn about the beauty culture in Korea. Guess the price and types of plastic surgeries, skin care services and products. 

April 17: Quirky holidays in Korea 

Description: Learn about some quirky holidays and mark them on a 25-26 calendar with each person’s own decoration.

 April 24: National holidays in Korea 

Description: Learn about some national holidays and mark them on a 25-26 calendar with each person’s own decoration.
